Capsule 013: Regulatory & Compliance Rhythm

Capsule 013: Regulatory & Compliance Rhythm

What I will learn?

  • Why a technically live Open Banking connection and a properly documented one are two different things, and why only one meets this Capsule's standard
  • The four ways compliance fails quietly — none of which show up in your numbers, which is exactly why they go unnoticed
  • How to extend an existing consent tracker with compliance-specific checks, rather than building a second tool that will drift out of sync
  • How to run a full compliance baseline for the first time, including what a realistic first result actually looks like
  • How to apply a materiality-style honesty check to your own data scope — confirming what's actually granted, not what you assume was granted
  • How to log an audit trail properly, so “we checked” becomes something provable rather than a claim
  • How this rhythm ties directly into the 2028 Baseline material's compliance dimension, from the Finance Lead's specific seat
  • Why logging a clean quarter matters as much as logging a quarter where something needed fixing

Material Includes

  • Five video segments, 4–5 minutes each — around 20 minutes total, watchable in one sitting or across a week
  • The Compliance Tracker (Excel) — three working sheets: Obligation Checklist, Consent-Renewal Tracker (extending the Open Banking Capsule's own tracker) and Audit-Trail Log, pre-loaded with a worked example
  • The Readiness Diagnostic (PDF) — a four-part worksheet covering what's currently connected, what you know about your providers, your existing documentation, and your review cadence
  • The One-Page Summary (PDF) — the four quiet failure patterns, the three-sheet tracker, and the standing rule on a single page
  • A five-question knowledge check, one per segment, with rationale on every answer
  • Lifetime access, including future versions of the tracker

Requirements

  • A live Open Banking feed already connected, with its own re-authentication tracker already running — covered in the Open Banking Capsule elsewhere in this catalogue
  • A list of every third-party tool you believe has access to your bank data, even an incomplete first guess
  • Excel or Google Sheets. No other software, and no legal or compliance background
  • About 15 minutes for the diagnostic, 20 minutes for your first full baseline, then a quarterly review of roughly the same length
  • Work in this order: complete the Readiness Diagnostic first, being honest about what you don't currently know.
  • Watch Segments 1 and 2 before building the baseline. Understanding what this Capsule actually requires, and the four ways it quietly fails, changes what you'll look for.
  • Extend your existing Open Banking re-authentication tracker with the two new compliance columns from Segment 3, rather than building a second tracker.
  • Run your first full baseline as taught in Segment 4, and log it — even a partial or gap-revealing result — as your first audit-trail entry.
  • Set a quarterly reminder and re-run the full checklist every time, logging the outcome whether or not anything needs fixing.

Target Audience

  • Finance leads who want a standing, provable answer to “has anyone checked this recently” rather than an assumption
  • Anyone running more than one Open Banking connection who has never formally listed which providers have access
  • Finance leads completing the Finance Lead Path who are ready for its closing module
  • Businesses that have never separately considered whether a connected feed carries personal data alongside business transactions
  • Anyone who suspects their compliance position is “probably fine” but has never actually written that down with confidence
  • Not for you if you haven't yet connected an Open Banking feed at all — start with the Open Banking Capsule first; this one assumes that connection already exists
  • No prior legal or compliance background assumed. If you can answer six plain questions honestly, you can complete this Capsule.
